X-Men Cross Country win CIS silver medal

The StFX X-Men earned the second ever CIS cross country team medal for the university Saturday afternoon on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, running to a silver medal. The X-Women team won a bronze medal at the 2007 championship, and this year finished in 9th spot overall.

The X-Men were led by AUS champion David Gerych who placed third overall (32:19.8), taking home his second consecutive CIS bronze medal. The team earned a possible 108 points, behind gold medal champion Guelph who dominated the field with 27 team points and individual runners placing first, second and fourth.

Matt Brunting of Guelph was the race winner finishing the 10k course in a time of 32:08.8 while teammate Kyle Boorsma was second at 32:13.6.

The Windsor Lancers wrapped up third spot with 124 points. There were a total of 15 teams and 112 individual runners who took part in the championship race.

Lee McCarron was the next X-Man to cross the line in 20th spot at 33:26.7, while Petr Doubravsky was 24th (33:31.6). Robert Winslow (33:46.8) and Brent Addison (33:51.9) were 33rd and 34th, respectively, Dan McNeil (34:04.7) placed 48th and Matt MacDonald (35:53.6) was 88th.
