X-Men run to AUS championship victory
The StFX X-Men are the 2008 cross country champions. The X-Men team placed six runners in the top ten to win their second AUS championship banner Saturday afternoon in Moncton at the Subway AUS cross country championship.

The X-Men were led by two-time defending AUS champion David Gerych (33:17.10) who was the individual race winner. Teammate Petr Doubravsky (33:44.10) crossed the finish line right behind him in second place, and Lee McCarron (34:20.00) was 4th.  UNB's Matt Peiterson (33:49.10) was the third place finisher.

Rounding out the top ten finishes for the X-Men were Brent Addison (34:57.90) in 6th place, Robert Winslow (35:12.60) in 7th and Dan McNeil (35:31.50) in 9th. Matt MacDonald (36:54.10) crossed the line in 16th spot. The win rounds out an undefeated season for the X-Men who have claimed top spot in every meet they have ran this fall.

StFX finished with 20 points, well ahead of second place UNB (74) and third place Dalhosuie (77). Memorial, Saint Mary's and Moncton completed the top six. The win marks the second AUS banner for the X-Men who were previous AUS champions in 2006.

David Gerych for the second year in a row was named the AUS Male Runner of the Year in addition to earning AUS all-star status. Teammates Doubravsky, McCarron, Addison and Winslow were also AUS all-stars and head coach Bernie Chisholm received the AUS Coach of the Year award.

The X-Men join their X-Women teammates who also captured the AUS championship for StFX. Both teams will be travelling to Quebec City for the CIS national championship taking place Nov. 8.
