StFX run away with UNB titles

Sep 22, 2008 - The X-Women and X-Men cross country teams ran away with the team titles this past weekend at Odell Park in Fredericton at the UNB Invitational meet.

Heather Moser led the X-Women to the team win with a first place finish in the 5km race, finishing with a time of 19:50. The X-Women nearly made a blue and white sweep of the top ten finishes, earning an impressive all but 8th spot in the top ten. Bre Bates placed second at 20:24 followed by Helena Fiore in third (20:36) and Madeline MacDonald in fouth (20:39). Rounding out the top ten for StFX were Kelly MacDonald (5th, 20:45), Paula MacDonald (6th, 200:53), Bre Langley (7th, 21:06), Erin MacNeil (9th, 21:26) and Flynn Regan (10th, 21:27). Also finishing in the top 20 for the X squad were Deidra Smith in 12th place (21:38) and Amy Hardwick in 15th (22:16). The X-Women earned 15 points for the first place team win, well ahead of second place finisher UNB with 73. Acadia placed third with 93 points, followed by the University of Montreal with 148.

In the men's 8km race, freshman Petr Doubravsky earned the first place finish for StFX, running in a time of 26 minutes, 23 seconds. He was followed by teammate David Gerych in second place at 26:40. The X-Men took fifth through eighth spots on route to their second consecutive meet win. Brent Addison placed fifth at 27:37, followed by Dan MacNeil in sixth (27:45), Ivan Lewis in seventh (28:00) and Robert Winslow in eighth (28:05). Sam Mason finished in tenth spot for StFX at 28:52, while five more X-Men placed in the top 20 including: Taylor Doucette (12th, 29:08), Matt MacDonald (14th, 29:39), Kyle Tramble (15th, 29:44), Andrew Freme (17th, 30:18) and Robert Lavers (18th, 30:31). The team earned 21 points in their first place win, followed by UNB with 53 and Montreal with 131.

The runners will next see action at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax this Saturday as they compete in the Saint Mary's Invitaitonal meet.
