ANTIGONISH, NS - The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked STFX X-Women soccer team wrapped up their 2023 home schedule with a 3-0 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Sunday afternoon. The win makes it 10 victories in a row for the undefeated AUS first place X-Women, who have already clinched a berth in the AUS playoffs.

The X-Women controlled much of the play in the first half, and were able to dominate the scoreboard as well, adding three goals in the span of 12 minutes.

STFX striker Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON) put the X-Women on the board in the 13th minute of the game, with Brynn Jurus (Ancaster, ON) hitting a through ball from 30 yards out to Smith, who only needed one touch from just outside the six-yard box to score. About eight minutes later, Smith doubled the STFX score, with another one-touch shot off a through ball from Lauren Reid (Kanata, ON) in the 21st minute.

About four minutes later, Ava Algood (Ottawa, ON) turned a beautiful pass from Aidan Miller (Chilliwack, BC) into the third and final goal of the game.

STFX continued to generate chances for the rest of the match, but Memorial was able to keep them from adding to the lead. Meanwhile the STFX defence, which has allowed only three goals so far this season, continued to prevent any scores.

STFX goalkeeper Christina Gentile (Laval, QC) made two saves while picking up the shutout win, while Memorial goaltender Shannon Galway (St. John's, NL) made five saves. Defender Kendra Schram (Brandon, MB) earned player of the game honours for the Sea-Hawks, and Smith's two-goal performance earned her player of the game honours for the X-Women.

The X-Women head to New Brunswick next weekend, where they will take on Moncton on October 20 at 5 p.m., followed by a match up with UNB at 3 p.m. on October 21. Memorial will finish their regular season with two home games next weekend against Acadia, on October 20 and 21, both at 5 p.m.
