St. John's, NF – The STFX X-Women improved to 4-1-0 on the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday afternoon.
Christina Gentile earned the win in the X net with four saves on the afternoon.
Veteran forward Amanda Smith received Subway Player of the Game honours as she scored two goals for the X-Women.
Her first tally came in the 37th minute and was the lone goal of the opening half. She scored again in the 62nd minute then Brynn Jurus found the back of the net just four minutes later as the X-Women held onto the commanding lead and did not allow the Sea-Hawks to get on the scoreboard.
X-Women head coach Graham Kennedy noted, "We played a good team and Christina Gentile kept us in it for 45 minutes before we finally found our rhythm. I thought we were outstanding in the second half where we showed our quality after a difficult first half. Amanda Smith was the difference chipping in two goals and setting up the other."
The same two squads will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
