SACKVILLE, NB – The STFX X-Women defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 5-0 in their first regular season home game on Saturday afternoon.
Christina Gentile (Laval, QC) earned the shutout victory in the nets for the X-Women.
STFX quickly got things started with some early first half goals courtesy of Brynn Jurus (Ancaster, ON) and a brace from Meghan Cole (Moncton, NB). The strong winds did not impact the X-Women stout defense as the back line held firm and produced many turnovers.
Emma Steen (Stittsville, ON) and Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON) added markers for the X-Women to give them a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Mounties head coach Gene Ouellette attempted to shake things up with a couple of early substitutions but ultimately the Mounties could not solve the X-Women backend.
STFX added one more goal late in the second half as Cole scored her second of the match to help her squad take the win by the 5-0 margin. For her efforts the freshman midfielder was named Subway Player of the Game.
Mount Allison (0-2-1) is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they host the Saint Mary's Huskies.
STFX (2-1-0) will travel to UPEI for a 1 p.m. tilt.
