X-Women soccer 2-0 in pre-season play

The X-Women soccer team played their first exhibition games of the 2011 pre-season and came home with two wins. At the Universite de Moncton invitational tournament this past weekend, the X-Women defeated Chaleur by a 3-2 score and the host Aigles Bleues de Moncton 6-1.

In Saturday morning’s match up against the Bathurst U18 Chaleur team, veteran striker Olivia Zanette led the StFX attack with two goals, while second year midfielder Melanie Sunada netted the third X goal.

Goalkeepers Anna Thompson and Maris Miller shared in the victory with each keeper playing a half.

The StFX netminders also split the keeper duties in Sunday’s lopsided 6-1 victory over Moncton. Jordan Brass led the X-Women with two goals while single markers were scored by Maura Woodman, Stephanie Cameron, Shannon Venedam and Meaghan Ramsden.

The X-Women will resume pre-season training this week as they prepare for the AUS regular season opener Sunday afternoon, Sept 11th when they will travel to Wolfville, NS to take on the Acadia Axewomen.

StFX finished in fourth place last season in the AUS standings with a 6-5-2 record, while Acadia had a 2-7-9 year in ninth place.
