Soccer X-Women defeat SMU

The soccer X-Women played to a 4-1 win over the visiting Saint Mary’s Huskies Sunday afternoon at StFX Oland Stadium.

Player of the Game Olivia Zanette lead the X-Women attack with two goals in the game, giving her six for the season. Zanette opened the scoring early in the game for X, scoring just 5 minutes in. Annie Langley tied the game, scoring SMU’s only goal at the 34 minute mark.

Zanette scored the go-ahead goal for the X-Women with just over a minute left in the first half and the StFX was able to shut the Huskies down for the remainder of the game.

\r\n

Sarah Mitchell and Laura Thompson rounded out the scoring with second half goals for StFX. Anna Thompson earned the win in nets.

\r\n

The win evened out the weekend for the X-Women who had dropped a 5-0 game to the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday afternoon at StFX Oland Stadium.

\r\n

The Tigers stunned the X-Women with three first half goals, and following up with two more in the second half. Taryn McKenna earned the win in nets for Dalhousie.

\r\n

The X-Women currently have 21 points with a 7-4-0 record and sit in fourth place overall in the AUS. The Tigers are in first place with 27 points, followed by UPEI (25) and Cape Breton (24).

\r\n

The X-Women have two games remaining on the AUS regular season schedule and will travel to Memorial for a pair of games against the 7th place Seahawks (4-7-0).
