X-Women Soccer ranked 7th in nation

After a successful 2-0 weekend, and a 3-0-0 AUS record, the X-Women Soccer team appear in the CIS Top 10 for the first time since 2006. The X-Women are ranked 7th overall in the nation. The last time the X-Women appeared in the national rankings was for two weeks late in 2006 when they were 9th. StFX is currently the only AUS team with a perfect record and sit atop the conference with 9 points.

National leaders stay put in soccer and rugby

OTTAWA (CIS) – The top of the leaderboard remains unchanged this week in CIS soccer and rugby.

The reigning CIS champion Trinity Western Spartans lead the women’s soccer coaches poll for the fourth time in four weeks, the Montreal Carabins are ranked No. 1 in the country in men’s soccer for the second straight week, while the two-time defending national champion Lethbridge Pronghorns have topped all three women’s rugby polls thus far in 2009.

In women’s soccer, the Spartans (3-0) remained perfect in conference play with an impressive 3-1 road win over No. 9-UBC last Friday night.

The Montreal Carabins (4-0), CIS bronze medallists a year ago, and Victoria Vikes (3-0) also kept their unblemished records intact over the past weekend to hold on to the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Montreal edged Sherbrooke 2-1 and No. 10-Laval 1-0, while Victoria dominated Calgary 4-1 and Lethbridge 3-0.

Rounding out the fourth women’s soccer Top 10 of the campaign are No. 4-Brock (3-0-1), Wilfrid Laurier (3-0-1) and Ottawa (4-0-2), which find themselves tied for fifth place, No. 7-StFX (3-0), No. 8-Cape Breton (2-1-1), No. 9-UBC (1-1-1) and No. 10-Laval (3-1).

Brock and Laurier battled to a 1-1 draw on Friday.
