Soccer X-Women win, tie in pre-season exhibition action

The X-Women soccer team, under the direction of sixth year head coach Trevor Reddick, opened their pre-season exhibition play this past weekend in New Brusnwick and came home with a win and a tie.

On Saturday afternoon in Fredericton, the X-Women shut out the UNB Varsity Reds by a 2-0 score. Hitting the back of the net for the X-Women were Olivia Zannette and Shannon Boisvert. Zannette, a second year striker from Thunder Bay, ON opened the scoring in the game in the 40th minute, while third year striker Boisvert (Maple Ridge, BC) scored in the 55th minute to give the X-Women an insurance marker. Third year keeper Anna Thompson (Clagary, AB) earned the shut out victory in nets for the X-Women

Sunday afternoon in Moncton, the X-Women played to a 1-1 draw with the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues. Fourth year veteran striker Amy MacKinnon (Calgary, AB) scored the lone StFX goal.

The two exhibition games mark the only ones on the pre-season schedule before the X-Women begin regular season AUS action at home on Friday, Sept. 11th. They will host the Acadia Axewomen at 3:00 pm on the StFX soccer pitch in their home opener.
