X soccer squads feast on Acadia

Oct 1, 2007 - Both StFX soccer squads recorded wins at home over Acadia on Sunday afternoon on StFX's Homecoming weekend. In the first game of the twin bill, the X-Women soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over the Axewomen. Midfielder Zuzana Majickova opened the scoring just four minutes into the game for the blue and white. Sarah Mitchell scored the second goal for the X-Women on a header in the 31st minute, while Margaret Hughes scored the third goal in the second half (56 minute mark). The lone Acadia gola was scored by Kristen Millet 78 minutes into the game. The win improves the X-Women record to 2-3-2 and moves them into a tie for sixth spot overall in the AUS conference. They will break for Thanksgiving weekend, resuming play on the road on Oct. 13 and 14 for games againt Moncton (1-3-3) and UNB (3-4-0).\r\n\r\nThe soccer X-Men improved their record to 3-2-2 after a 3-0 shutout win over the visiting Axemen. All the scoring took place in the first half of the game with first year forward Michael Marousek leading the X attack with two goals. Marousek scored five minutes in and Joseph Phillips notched his 4th goal of the season just four minutes later. Marousek scored his second goal of the game and fourth overall at the 29 minute mark. Phillips and Marousek are tied with four others for second place overall in AUS scoring, while the X-Men are currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the AUS standings with 8 points. After breaking for Thanksgiving weekend, the X-Men will travel to Moncton on Oct. 13 for a game against the 2-3-2 Aigles Bleus and Fredericton on Oct. 14 to play UNB (3-1-3).
