Mike Cavanagh is in his 20th season at the helm of the rugby X-Women team, the 2017 U SPORTS bronze medalists. A two-time U SPORTS Coach of the Year and 10-time AUS Coach of the Year, Cavanagh brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and coach, leading the X-Women to five U SPORTS national championships (2016, 2014, 2012, 2010 and 2006) and 18 AUS championships. Cavanagh's X-Women also earned national silver medals in 2011, 2009 and 2008, appearing in the national final in seven of the past 11 years.
Since 2002, Cavanagh's career record stands at 93-3-2 in regular season play and 141-32-5 overall (regular season, AUS & U SPORTS playoffs). His X-Women are consistently ranked in the U SPORTS Top Ten every week for the past number of years, continuing to be a national contender. They have only lost two AUS regular season games since 2004.
Cavanagh has played on various teams, including clubs from New Zealand, Ireland, British Columbia and Nova Scotia. On three occasions he has coached against the national teams of Scotland, Wales, and the New Zealand Maori. Mike also coached the Nova Scotia Keltics in the Canadian Super League, and at every age level provincially.
