WOLFVILLE, NS – Two tries in the last 20 minutes gave them a shot, but the Acadia Axewomen (0-2) were unable to complete the comeback as the STFX X-Women (2-0) held on for a narrow 21-19 victory on Sunday night.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, but postponed due to Post Tropical Storm Lee, saw only one try in the opening half as Akwaima Akpan opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for the X-Women.

Kendra McDonell put X ahead by a pair of trys in the 44th minute, before Acadia's Sara Grant cut into the lead with her first of two trys in the match just seven minutes later.

Brianna Willis scored the eventual game-winning try for STFX in the 56th minute, while Katie Murphy made all three converts on the day for the X-Women.

Grant's second try came in the 64th minute, followed by a 79th-minute try by Olivia Savoie to put the game within reach. The convert was on the mark, but just short as time ran out for the Axewomen's final attempt to score in the dying seconds.

Kenzie Cecchetto was named Acadia's player of the game, with Emily Dodge earning the honour for STFX.

The Axewomen travel to Saint Mary's next weekend to face the Huskies, while STFX heads to UPEI to face the undefeated Panthers.
