X-Women 3-0 in AUS pre-season tourney
The X-Women Rugby team competed in the pre-season AUS tournament at Acadia on Sunday and came home with three victories.
Wolfville, NS – The X-Women Rugby team competed in the pre-season AUS tournament at Acadia on Sunday and came home with three victories.
In the first game, the blue and white defeated the Acadia 'B' team by a 29-0 margin. STFX scored 17 points in the opening half as tries were scored by Maya Faucher, Elsie Taweel and Shona Galloway. Brooklyn Peyton kicked a convert in each half and Audrey Stone and Julia Baniak scored second half tries to round out the X scoring.
STFX earned their second shutout of the day with a decisive 37-0 win over Saint Mary's. Jessie Penney and Courtney Gottselig scored tries in the first half as X held a 10-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Emily Dodge, Kate Childs, Sophie Beck and Akwaima Akpan all crossed the try line for the X-Women. Katie Murphy kicked one convert.
The third and final game featured the X-Women and Acadia's 'A' squad and was a close scoring affair, with STFX coming our on top, 14-12. Murphy scored a try and booted two conversions for X and Camryn Kleynhans added a second half try in the X-Women win.
The games marked the final ones of the pre-season exhibition season for STFX as they now shift their attention to AUS regular season play which kicks off Saturday, September 9th. The X-Women will host Saint Mary's at 2:00 pm at STFX Stadium.
