Antigonish, NS – The CIS ranked No. 4 X-Women rugby team defeated the UPEI Panthers 47-0 Friday evening in a rainy match at StFX Oland Stadium on Homecoming weekend.

With the win the X-Women improve to 3-1 on the season after dropping a loss to Acadia last week.

X-Women head coach Mike Cavanagh commented, "We did the little things much better this week. We tackled much better, we played for a whole 80 minutes, and I thought our communication was better."

"We capitalized on a lot of our scoring chances and had a much better effort than last week."

The defending CIS champions held a 25-0 lead at halftime on the strength of five opening half tries. Prop Joanna Alphonso (Ajax, ON) and center Natalie Lesco (London, ON) each scored a pair of tries.

Alphonso went on to add two more tries in the second half for 20 points on the evening, vaulting her into first place in the AUS points standings.

Brooke Newsome (Brantford, ON), Cyra Humber (Toronto, ON) and Subway player of the game Jaelei Meyer (Carlyle, SK) rounded out the try scoring for the X-Women and Lauren Agnew (Stittsville, ON) booted a single conversion.

Scrum half Holly Jones (Riverview, NB) received player of the game honors for the Panthers who fall to 1-3 on the season.

UPEI will next play on October 10th when they host the first place Acadia Axewomen (3-0).

The X-Women hit the road for a Tuesday night game in Halifax on October 13th. Game time is 7:00 pm against the Huskies.
