The CIS defending champion X-Women rugby team took to the field Saturday afternoon in pre-season exhibition action in Truro, NS. Using a split squad, the StFX 'white' team defeated AUS rivals Acadia 54-24, while the StFX 'blue' team defeated St. Thomas 55-0.
In the game against Acadia, five different X-Women scored tries including Joanna Alphonso, Natalie Lesco, Erica Cranston, Breanna Allison and Merrit Blair. Fly half Sabrina McDaid booted six conversions to round out the scoring for StFX who played to the 54-24 victory.
The decisive 55-0 win over St. Thomas featured nine different X-Women cross the try line. June Beals scored three tries for StFX, while single tallies were scored by Danielle Cormier, Amelia Hatfield, Kathleen Haggarty, Jordane Poulin, Joanne Callow, Keely MacCuish, Renée Taylor and Hailey Meade.
The X-Women begin AUS regular season play this coming weekend. The 17-time defending AUS champions host Saint Mary's on Friday night, September 11th at 7:00 pm.
