X-Women win road game against Panthers

Charlottetown, PE – The CIS ranked No. 2 StFX X-Women improved to 4-0 on the season with a 34-5 victory over the UPEI Panthers Sunday afternoon in AUS women's rugby action.

Fourth year flanker Mia Huysmans (Ponoka, AB) received Subway player of the game honors as she scored two tries in the game.

Second year center Jaelei Meyer (Carlyle, SK) opened the scoring in the game 15 minutes in, scoring her first try of the season. Veteran fifth year lock Emma Taylor (Scotsburn, NS) made good on the conversion to give the X-Women an early 7-0 lead.

Third year winger Lauren Agnew (Stittsville, ON), second year prop Tasha McKenzie (Indian Brook, NS) and Huysmans each scored tries to give the defending AUS champion X-Women  a 22-0 lead at half-time.

Huysmans then scored her second of the game in the second half with Taylor booting her second convert of the game for a 29-0 lead.

Brittany Hogue scored a try in the 70th minute for UPEI as X-Women head coach Mike Cavanagh gave credit to the opponents, commenting "PEI have a good team and they played with a lot of heart."

"We played very well in the first half but did not keep up the intensity in the second half."

Agnew rounded out the StFX scoring late in the game with her second try of the afternoon.

The X-Women (4-0) next see action on Friday, Oct. 3rd when they host the second place Acadia Axewomen (3-1) in a Homecoming game at 7:00 pm. The Panthers (1-3) will travel to Halifax on Oct. 5th to face the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-4) in a 2pm game.
