X-Women rugby close out perfect season with win at Acadia

The CIS ranked No. 1 X-Women rugby team closed out the AUS regular season with a 64-0 shutout over the Acadia Axewomen in Wolfville, N.S. Friday evening.

Subway player of the game Amanda Thornborough led the way for the first place X-Women, scoring four tries in the game, all in the first half, racking up 20 for StFX, who lead 54-0 at half-time.

X-Women captain Asya Bartley and full back Magali Harvey each scored two tries for the X-Women. Harvey also kicked two conversions for 14 points on the night.

Single tries were scored by Tyson Beukeboom, Jessica Jacobs, Lisa Gauthier, Danielle Robb, Olivia DeMerchant and Lauren Agnew.
With the win, the X-Women improve to 8-0 on the season, finishing atop the AUS conference. They have outscored their opponents 657-3, dominating conference play. With ten exhibition wins to their credit, they hold an overall season record of 18-0.

The X-Women are poised to host both the AUS and CIS championships at StFX Oland Stadium. The Subway AUS championship is slated for October 27-28, followed by the CIS national championship from November 1-4.

On Saturday, October 27th the first place X-Women will play the fourth seeded UPEI Panthers at 12:00 pm in the first semifinal game, followed by the second place Acadia Axewomen and third place Saint Mary’s Huskies at 2:00 pm in the other semifinal. The two winners will square off Sunday at 2:00 pm in the AUS championship game.
