X-Women rugby 3-0 on Montreal exhibition swing

The X-Women rugby team hit the road this past Thanksgiving weekend for exhibition action and came home with three victories. On Saturday morning, StFX defeated Concordia 51-3, then followed up with a 53-20 win over McGill and a 56-0 shutout over John Abbott College on Sunday afternoon.

In Saturday’s win over Concordia, Asya Bartley and Olivia DeMerchant each scored two tries, while single tries were scored by Lisa McGrath, Magali Harvey, Amanda Thornborough, Jayme Ward and Lisa Gauthier. Harvey also booted three converts to round out the StFX scoring.

In Sunday’s 53-20 win over McGill, Gauthier led the X-Women attack with two tries while Harvey scored one try and had four conversions. Single tries were scored by Thornborough, Emma Taylor, Stephanie Gillis, Natalie Lesco, Sara Kaljuvee and Zahra Batool.

Ten different X-Women contributed to the scoring in their 56-0 win over John Abbott College. Emma Gibbons, Lauren Agnew, Jayme Ward, Mia Huysmanns, Danielle Robb, Ellen Murphy, Kelly Mitchell, Kalyn MacAskill, Sara Gandy and Tanisha Campbell all scored individual tries for the blue and white. Agnew kicked three converts.

The three wins pad the CIS ranked No. 1 X-Women’s overall season record to 15-0, as they are 6-0 in AUS league play and 9-0 in exhibition matches. They next see action this coming Friday night, October 12th when they travel to Fredericton to take on the St. Thomas Tommies.
