X-Women rugby cruises in battle of unbeaten teams

The CIS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Women remained perfect on the regular season with a 90-0 win over the Acadia Axewomen Thursday evening at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.
 
It was a battle of unbeaten teams in the AUS, with the X-Women coming in with a 5-0 record, while the Axewomen, No. 10 in the CIS, were 4-0.
 
After a scoreless opening 15 minutes, Tyson Beukeboom scored her first of two trys in the match. With the conversion by Magali Harvey, the blue and white led 7-0. From there, the X-Women turned up the offensive pressure in taking a 47-0 halftime lead.
 
On their first possession of the second half, Asya Bartley scored her first of two trys, giving the X-Women a 52-0 advantage.
 
Amanda Thornborough, Subway player of the game, and Lisa Gauthier notched three trys apiece for StFX
 
AUS league-leading scorer Magali Harvey led the X-Women with 23 points, including her try and nine converts.
 
Emma Taylor, Lisa McGrath and Natalie Lesco, with singles trys, and Sabrina McDaid, with a convert, rounded out the scoring for the blue and white.  
 
With the win, the X-Women improve to 6-0, while the Axewomen fall to 4-1.
 
The blue and white will make their traditional Thanksgiving exhibition trip this weekend. The destination this season is Montreal, where they will face Concordia, McGill and John Abbott College.
 
The X-Women return to AUS play Friday, October 12, when they travel to Fredericton to face the St. Thomas Tommies.
