X-Women drub Huskies
Magali Harvey accounted for 39 of St. Francis Xavier’s 101 points in the X-Women’s 101-0 season-opening thrashing of the Saint Mary’s Huskies in an AUS women’s rugby matinee at Huskies Stadium on Sunday.
Harvey, an all-star fullback and the 2010 conference rookie of the year, collected a three tries and had 12 converts. StFX (1-0) had 15 tries in the one-sided match.
Harvey's 39 points broke the AUS record for the most points scored by an individual in a single game. Former X-Women standout Ghislaine Landry held the previous record of 35 points from a 2008 victory, also over Saint Mary's. Harvey also broke her own AUS record for the most converts scored in a single game. Her 12 converts kicked on Sunday surpassed the 10 she booted in a 2011 win over Saint Mary's.
Two-time AUS MVP Tyson Beukeboom and sophomores Mia Huysmans and Sara Kaljuvee had two tries apiece.
Asya Bartley, Lysa McGrath, Amanda Thornborough, Lisa Gauthier, Zahra Batool and Steph Gillis also had majors.
It was the most lopsided score since St. F.X. dumped SMU 105-0 on Oct. 6, 2010.
Saint Mary’s drops to 0-2.
The X-Women's next game will be on Wednesday, September 19th when they host the St. Thomas Tommies at 5:00 pm.
