Gauthier wins with team Canada at Barbados tourney

X-Women rugby centre Lisa Gauthier recently competed with the Canadian Sevens development squad at the North American & Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Championships in Barbados, helping them with a tournament victory.

Gauthier was a member of the Canadian Maple Leafs who represented Canada at championships. The Maple Leafs act as Canada's rugby sevens development team, with this particular group being assembled by coaches John Tait and Sandro Fiorino, with an eye towards building depth in the Canadian Sevens program. Current X-Women fullback Magali Harvey and former StFX standout Ghislaine Landry are current members of the national sevens team.
At the recent NACRA championship, Gauthier and her teammates defeated Jamaica 38-0 in the final game to win the championship.

In earlier tournament action, the Canadians defeated Guadeloupe 52-0 with Gauthier scoring a try in that match. A 2011 CIS All-Canadian and CIS tournament all-star, Lisa is in her third season of eligibility with the X-Women rugby program. The St. Bernadin, Ont. native missed last year due to an injury but was a contributing force with the X-Women this year in their drive to a 14th consecutive AUS title and a silver medal performance at the CIS national championship.

While in Barbados, the Canadian team also earned victories over Jamaica (38-0)and pre-tournament favorites Trinidad and Tobago (26-5).

The Canadian women's program will now move forward to their training camp and selections for the upcoming Dubai IRB Sevens; the first ever fully sponsored IRB tournament in women's rugby.
