X-Women close out season with 95-0 romp over Huskies
The CIS No. 1 ranked X-Women rugby team continued their domination in the AUS conference after a 95-0 win over Saint Mary’s Sunday afternoon to close out the regular season. The X-Women wrap up first place with a 6-0 record.
StFX started strong in the game, scoring 26 points in the first 15 minutes of play. They extended that lead to 62-0 at half-time.
Second year StFX fullback Magali Harvey broke an AUS record for the most conversions in a game as she booted a total of 10, breaking the 2008 record of 8 set by former X-Woman Courtnay Malcolm. Harvey also scored a try for 25 total points scored in the game.
Lisa Gauthier and Tyson Beukeboom each scored 20 points for the X-Women as they both scored 4 tries apiece, playing strong games for the blue and white.
Single tries came from Beth McNeill, Alex Munroe, Jessica Jacobs, Jayme Ward, Danielle Robb and Daniela Mayo.
Lisa Gauthier earned Subway Player of the Game honors for StFX.
The X-Women finish the season in first place with a 6-0 record, tallying 352 points for to only 29 points allowed against. They will have a bye week as the AUS semi-final game is played on October 22nd in Charlottetown as the third place Acadia Axewomen (3-3) visit the second place UPEI Panthers (3-3).
StFX awaits the winner for the Subway AUS championship game which they will host on Friday, October 28th at 6:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium. The AUS winner earns a trip to the CIS championship in Peterborough, ON hosted by Trent University November 3-6. The X-Women are the defending CIS champions.
