Rugby X-Women improve to 3-0

The CIS No. 1 X-Women rugby team earned their third consecutive win of the season with a 36-0 shutout over the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown Saturday afternoon.

The X-Women built a 21-0 lead at half-time and kept the Panthers off the score sheet for the remainder of the game.

Amanda Thornborough scored two tries for the X-Women, while single tries came from Lisa Gauthier, Danielle Robb, Magali Harvey and Tyson Beukeboom. Gauthier returned to the X-Women line-up for the first time since she suffered an injury early in the 2010 season.

StFX Player of the Game Magali Harvey also connected for three conversions to tally 11 total points in the game for the X-Women, who sit alone atop the AUS standings with a 3-0 record.  The loss was the first one for the Panthers (2-1).

The X-Women’s next game will be a re-match against the Panthers. UPEI will play at the StFX Oland Centre on Saturday, Oct. 1st for a 6:00 pm Homecoming game.
