X-Women Rugby wins AUS Championship

X-Women rugby won the Subway Women’s Rugby AUS Championships with a convincing 57-0 win against Acadia this Sunday afternoon at StFX. This is StFX’s 13th consecutive AUS Championship title. StFX fans braved the cold and wet weather in support of the X-Women.

StFX lead the first half 26-0. In the first minute and a half of play, Tyson Beukeboom put StFX on the board with a tri. Asya Bartley, Megan Pritchard and Amanda Thornborough each scored a tri in the first half. Magali Harvey scored three converts to help extend the lead for StFX. X dominated the first half offensively only allowing Acadia in their end twice. Acadia defensively played very well holding up at least eight tri’s.

Beukeboom opened up the scoring once again for StFX in the second half with a tri. Thornborough, with her second tri of the day, scored for StFX. Alex Munroe, right off the bench with fresh legs scored a tri. Bartley then plows her way thru for two more tri’s. Harvey scored three big converts in the second half to help her team defeat Acadia 57-0. Amanda Thornborough was named player of the game.

StFX sees play next at the CIS 2010 Women’s Rugby Championship held at Trent University, Peterborough, ON. The Championship will run from November 4th to November 7th.
