2010 AUS Womens Rugby All-Stars Announced

October 28, 2010 (HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2010 women's rugby all-star team as selected by the conference's four head coaches following regular season play.

The undefeated, twelve-time defending AUS conference champion StFX X-Women (6-0-0, 1st place) took home a total of seven all-star awards, including the Atlantic conference’s two leading scorers in Magali Harvey and Asya Bartley. Harvey, a first year player from Quebec City, QC, led the conference with 12 tries and 86 points this season, while Bartley, also named to the all-star team in 2009, was second in AUS scoring with nine tries and 45 points.

StFX's Jamee George, Beth MacNeil, Tyson Beukeboom , Julie Emmerson and Jessica Jacobs were the other X-Women selected. George, a third year lock from Brandon, MB, scored four tries this year has now been named an all-star in each of her three seasons in the league. Emmerson, a 2008 all-star, is an all-star for the second time in her career. MacNeil, Beukeboom and Jacobs are each being recognized as all-stars for the first-time.

The second-place Acadia Axewomen (4-2-0) had three players selected as all-stars, including third year centre Andrea Lafleur (Mount Uniacke, NS), second year lock Allison Jordan (Fall River, NS) and first year winger Nicole Kelly (Morell, PE). Lafleur is also an all-star for the third consecutive year, while Jordan is an all-star for the second season in a row.

The Saint Mary’s Huskies (2-4-0, third place) and the UPEI Panthers (0-6-0, fourth place) had three and two players honoured respectively. UPEI’s Kaitlin Richard (Summerside, PE) has been chosen for the fourth time in her career, while Katelyn Smith (Dartmouth, NS) of the Huskies is the lone fifth year senior named to the 2010 squad.

Katie McGraw and Holly de Vaal of Saint Mary’s, along with UPEI’s Sumara Profit round out this year’s selections. McGraw was SMU’s leading scorer this season with four tries for 20 points.

The 2010 Subway Atlantic University Sport Women's Rugby Championship game is being held this Sunday, October 31st at 1:00pm in Antigonish, N.S. The championship game features the CIS No. 3 ranked StFX X-Women hosting the Acadia Axewomen. In last weekend’s AUS semifinal, Acadia defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 17-12 in sudden-death overtime to move on to the final, which will be available live via webcast.
