X-Women Rugby Players Attend Development Camp
X-Women Rugby players Amanda Thornborough, Lisa Gauthier, Magali Harvey and Tyson Beukeboom were recently invited to a five day development camp in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gauthier was unable to attend due to injury. Beukeboom, Harvey and Thornborough were three out of forty nine rugby players that attended the camp where they competed for a position to play on Team Canada in the 2011 USA Rugby Women’s International Invitation Sevens Tournament which runs from Friday February 11th to Sunday February 13th.
Harvey, AUS Rookie of the Year and CIS Tournament All-Star, was selected as one of the twelve members to represent Team Canada in the USA Rugby Women’s International Invitation Sevens Tournament. Also representing Canada is two time CIS Player of the Year and former X-Women Rugby player Ghislaine Landry.
Beukeboom, AUS MVP of the Year and AUS All-Star, and Thornborough, CIS Tournament All-Star, were selected to play in the Women’s Open Sevens Division of the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament. Tyson was named to Maple Leafs Red and Amanda was selected for the Maple Leafs Black.
“It’s quite an achievement for these players to be playing against the best players in the world,” comments X-Women Rugby Head Coach Mike Cavanagh. “I’m sure the experience will only help enhance their rugby skills.”
“It’s unfortunate that Lisa was unable to attend because she definitely would have made a mark.” says Coach Cavanagh.
The games will be webcasted on USA Rugby’s Ustream channel: http://www.Ustream.tv/usarugby or for current updates please visit www.usasevens.com. The Women’s final game on Sunday will be broadcast live by NBC.
