X-Women rugby finish 1st in AUS

The X-Women rugby team continued their dominance over their fellow AUS competitors this season with a 70-0 victory over the UPEI Panthers Sunday afternoon at Oland Stadium.

The CIS ranked No. 2 X-Women were led by captain Ghislaine Landry, the Subway Player of the Game, who scored 4 tries in the game for 20 points. Landry currently leads all AUS scorers with 16 tries and 80 points on the season.

\r\n

The X-Women led 29-0 at the half after tries were scored by Landry, Jill MacLaren, Allison McLashen, and two by Tyson Beukaboom. Courtnay Malcolm coverted on two tries to round out the first half scoring.

\r\n

Landry continued her scoring streak with two consecutive tries to lead off the second half of the game. MacLaren scored her second try, and Malcolm made good on three straight converts to give her a total of 10 points in the game.

\r\n

First year players Marissa Ully and Carla vandenBerg scored their first tries of the season. VandenBerg scored two consecutive tries late in the game and Landry added her fourth to round out the 70 points posted by StFX. The X-Women have outscored their opponents by a 356-19 margin this season.

With a 6-0 record, the X-Women conclude regular season play and will have a weekend off as they wait for their opponent for the AUS championship game. Second place Saint Mary’s (4-2) and third place Acadia (2-4) will play off for a date to meet the X-Women at StFX Oland Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 31st in the AUS championship game. The game is slated for 1:00 pm and will be webcast live on ssncanada.ca.
