X Rugby beats NCAA No. 1 ranked Brown University

The CIS ranked No. 2 X-Women rugby team earned a pair of exhibition victories this past weekend south of the border with a 41-7 win over Brown University and a 29-24 win over the Beantown senior women’s team.

The X-Women easily handled the NCAA Division I number one ranked Brown University on Friday evening, winning by a lopsided 41-7 margin. The defending CIS silver medalists established a 32-0 half-time lead and built upon that in the second half.

Freshman Tyson Beukaboom scored 10 points on 2 tries in the game for the X-Women, while Courtnay Malcolm scored 11 points as she had 1 try and 3 conversions. Single tries were scored by Malorie Dobbin, Megan Pritchard, Ghislaine Landry and Lisa Gauthier.

The X-Women handed Brown University their first loss of the season as they entered the game with a previous 6-0-1 record, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA for the past three weeks and only allowing 12 points scored against them.

On Saturday afternoon in Boston, the X-Women played a hard-fought game against a tough Beantown senior women’s team and came out on top of a 29-24 decision.

Beukaboom again played a strong game for the X-Women, scoring 2 more tries for a total of 4 on the weekend, while fellow freshman Cassis Osins and Amanda Thornborough also scored tries for X. Veteran captain Ghislaine Landry added a try and Courtnay Malcolm made good on 2 converts to round out the scoring for StFX.
 
The X-Women are the 11-time defending AUS champions and now own an 8-1 in overall competition this season, including a 5-0 record in AUS play. Their one loss came in exhibition play at the hands of the two-time defending Lethbridge Pronghorns by a close 17-12 score.

StFX resumes regular season AUS competition on Sunday, Oct. 18 when they host the UPEI Panthers at 2:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium. The game marks their final regular season home game and will be webcast live on SSN Canada.
