Malcolm named AUS Athlete of the Week

Winger Courtnay Malcolm of the #2-ranked StFX X-Women rugby team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 4th, 2009. Courtnay, a fourth year Human Nutrition student from New Glasgow, NS, was named the Subway Player of the Game in the X-Women’s 49-7 road win over the Acadia Axewomen this past weekend. Courtnay, currently second in AUS scoring this season with 47 points in four games, scored two tries and added a pair of conversions in the game. Malcolm, who led the CIS in scoring last season with a conference record 135 points in six games, is a two-time AUS all-star with the undefeated X-Women.

Second-year forward Keishen Bean of the Cape Breton Capers men's soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 4th, 2009. Keishen, a second year student from Bermuda, had a career game this past weekend in a 3-1 road victory over the #9-ranked UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown, PE, netting a hat-trick to account for all of CBU’s scoring in the victory. He was named the Subway Player of the Game for his efforts and is now tied for third in conference scoring this season with four goals. In the Capers other game this weekend, Keishen had several scoring opportunities but wasn’t able to find the back of the net against StFX in a 1-1 draw. With the four points, the Capers enter the Thanksgiving break in a tie with UPEI for second place in the AUS standings with 15 points.
