Landry & Gauthier lead X attack

On a crisp Sunday afternoon in Charlottetown, the CIS ranked No. 2 X-Women rugby team improved their AUS record to a perfect 3-0 after a 65-0 win over the UPEI Panthers.

The Panthers fall to 0-3 at the bottom of the AUS conference while the X-Women hold strong to first place with 6 points.

\r\n

Two-time defending CIS Player of the Year and current all-time AUS career leading scorer, Ghislaine Landry kept up her strong play, scoring 3 tries in the game for the 11-time defending AUS champion X-Women. Landry currently leads the AUS conference in scoring with 45 points.

\r\n

Not far behind her is teammate Lisa Gauthier, last season’s AUS Rookie of the Year. Gauthier scored 3 tries in the game and currently has 40 points on the season, second to Landry. 

\r\n

Kicker Courtnay Malcolm scored 10 points for the X-Women, converting on five of a possible 11 tries.

\r\n

X-Women freshman center Amanda Thornborough scored two tries in the game, while single tries were scored by Jill MacLaren, Allison McGlashen and Daniela Mayo who earned her first points in an X-Women jersey.

\r\n

The X-Women had built up a 44-0 lead at half-time and did not look back as they held the Panthers off the score sheet.

\r\n

StFX has a pair of road games upcoming on the AUS schedule. Saturday evening they will play a game at Acadia, followed by a 4pm game next Wednesday, Oct. 7th at Saint Mary’s.
