X-Women thump Axewomen 85-7

The X-Women rugby team sent a message to the visiting Acadia Axewomen Saturday night at StFX Oland Stadium with a commanding 85-7 victory in wet, windy conditions.

The X-Women established a convincing 48-0 lead at half-time. Scoring tries in the first half for the blue and white were Ghislaine Landry with three, along with Lisa Gauthier, Asya Bartley, Courtnay Malcolm, Amanda Thornborough and Tyson Beukaboom. Malcolm was 4 for 8 in convert attempts in the first half for six points, 11 total with her try.

Malcolm, Landry and Bartley rested for the second half of the game but the scoring onslaught continued as Beukaboom scored her second try of the game, along with Jill MacLaren, Mary Giles and Gauthier and Thornborough each with two more a piece. Allison McLashlen converted on 1 of 7 converts in the second half.

The Axewomen did score a lone try in the second half, Haley McKee earned the try credit while Erin Beazley kicked the convert.

\r\n

X-Women head coach Mike Cavanagh commented, “It was the first time we played as a team all year, everyone was looking for the ball and worked well together.”

Freshman player Tyson Beukaboom, in the #8 position, earned Subway Player of the Game honors for the X-Women.

The X-Women improve their regular season record to 2-0 and will hit the road next weekend for a Sept. 27th game at UPEI.
