Landry returns after busy summer
August 24, 2008 - X-Women rugby student-athlete and reigning CIS Player of the Year Ghislaine Landry returns to the X-Women line-up this fall after a busy summer of competition with the CIS National 7’s team.
\r\nShe participated in the 3rd University World Rugby Championship this past July in Cordoba, Spain with the national team and came home with a silver medal, losing a close 17-12 to the host team Spain in the championship match. In semi-final action Canada defeated Italy 14-12 after posting a 2-2 record in round robin play with wins over France and Great Britain and losses to Italy and Spain.
\r\nOn her team’s international tournament results, Landry comments, "We were a young team, with no returning players from the previous years and we were playing against older, more experienced teams, so we definitely had our work cut out for us. Despite this we held our own and put a good fight getting ourselves into the final match, which was our first goal."
\r\n"The final was a tough match and we gave it everything we had, unfortunately it wasn’t enough," says Landry who played in the sweeper position for the team. "Overall it was a fun tournament because everything was new with new coaches and players a tournament I had never been to before, which makes it exciting. A tournament like this isn’t just about rugby but also the whole experience and culture which I really enjoyed."
