Moncton, NB - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women 4-1 in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action Saturday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
There was no scoring in the first period, with few shots coming from either side and only seven in total as there were several blocked shots in front of both nets.
Elizabeth Galipeau broke the ice scoring the first goal for the Aigles Bleues at 15:09 of the second period.
Valérie Haché, the player of the game for the Aigles Bleues, scored the game winner at 7:15 of the third period, off a pass from Erica Plourde.
Two minutes later, Shani Rossignol from behind the net managed to send the puck in to give the home team a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Terryn Mozes (from Kamdyn Switzer and Landyn Pitts) scored while on the power play for STFX on a hard shot through traffic. The goal gave the X-Women a new life and they attacked for almost 10 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.
Amélie Vachon scored an empty net goal for Moncton to seal the win.
STFX goaltender Brooklyn Oakes saw 19 shots in the loss, with Annick Boudreau facing the same number for the Aigles Bleues.
Switzer was named the X-Women player of the game.
The Aigles Bleues will host the UNB Reds on Wednesday night, October 23rd at 7 p.m. The X-Women will be back in action on Friday, October 25th when they host the UPEI Panthers, also at 7 p.m.
