(SACKVILLE, NB) - The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 game to the STFX X-Women returned to the on Friday night in their home opener at Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
Mount Allison got off to a hot start as Dallis Mackenzie found the back of the net within the first three minutes of the game to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage. They continued to hold onto the one-goal lead through the end of the first period.
STFX responded early in the second period as Mackenzie Lothian lit the lamp on the powerplay to tie the game. Midway through the period the visitors would strike again as Tea Pearce put the X-Women ahead 2-1. That scoreline held after 40 minutes.
Lothian would not be finished on the night as she scored her second goal of the game midway through the third period to extend the visitors lead to two goals, and earned herself player of the game honours. The X-Women held on to win the game by the 3-1 score.
STFX continues their time in New Brunswick with a matchup against St. Thomas Saturday, October 5th with puck drop set for 7:00pm. Mount Allison will continue their homestand Saturday as they play host to UPEI, also at 7:00pm.
