Fredericton, NB - Despite facing pressure from STFX, the Tommies prevailed 2-1 in overtime with a clutch penalty shot to seize a 2-1 series lead in the AUS semifinal best of five playoff series.

Despite being outplayed in the first period, and with four penalties against, the Tommies managed to take a 1-0 lead with a goal from Trinity Webber at the 17:45 minute mark.

The Tommies faced a setback in the second period as Jacey Dane left the ice with a knee injury and couldn't return. Despite both teams applying pressure, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Tommies at the end of second period.

STFX fought back in the third period, and right at the start with 36 seconds in the period Anna MacCara scored to tie the game at 1-1.

With regulation ending in the 1-1 score, the teams headed to overtime to decide the match. STFX dominated early in OT, once again outshoting the Tommies 7-1, but with 3:35 left on the clock, the Tommies were awarded a penalty shot, which Ekaterina Pelowich converted to secure the win for the home team.

Payton Jacobs commented after the game, "We had an amazing game today, everyone gave all their efforts, nobody stopped, fans were cheering. It was great and we hope we can finish it off tomorrow night."

The Tommies had 16 shots while STFX had 44 in total. Players of the game were awarded to Katie Sweeney from STU and Landyn Pitts from STFX.

With the victory, the Tommies now lead the series 2-1. The teams will face off again tomorrow night at 7pm at the Grant Harvey Centre for the fourth game of the series.
