ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Women picked up a decisive 5-1 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues on Wednesday night at the Charles V Keating Centre. Kamdyn Switzer (Stittsville, ON) and Anna MacCara (Trenton, NS) led the way for the X-Women with a combined nine points, picking up first and second star of the game honours respectively.

It took only 35 seconds for the home team to open the scoring, with Switzer notching her seventh tally of the season with a wrister from the slot through a screen. Third star of the game Landyn Pitts (Antigonish, NS) and MacCara assisted.

Moncton pushed back though, forcing Amaya Giraudier (Assiniboia, SK) to make a couple of big saves early on. Moncton's Emilie Comeau (Hearst, ON) rang one off the post with about four minutes left in the period, but it was Switzer who netted the second goal of the game, firing home a shot from close in off a pass from rookie Lainey Joyce (Vancouver, BC) with just under two minutes left in the stanza.

Shots at the end of the period were 13-9 in favour of the X-Women as they held a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

The teams went back and forth early in the second period, but Switzer completed the hatty with just over six minutes gone, firing a shot low from the slot off passes from Mackenzie Lothian (Alliston, ON) and MacCara.

MacCara made it a four-goal game three minutes later, getting the last stick to a point shot from Kya Moss (Port Moody, BC), with Switzer also assisting. MacCara added her second goal of the night 20 seconds later off a scramble in front of the Moncton net, with Switzer and Pitts assisting.

STFX continued to carry the play for the rest of the period, which ended with the home team leading in shots 30-17.

Moncton broke the shutout eight minutes into the third period, with Maritza Labrie (Saint-Quentin, NB) tucking one low for her 10th goal of the season.

The Moncton goal was the only one of the third period as the X-Women held onto the 5-1 victory. Shots at the end of the game were 37-25 in favour of STFX.

Giraudier made 24 saves in the win, her 13th victory of the season, while Annick Boudreau (Memramcook, NB) made 32 stops for Moncton.

The X-Women next hit the ice on Friday night, when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies at 7 p.m. at the Keating Centre. Moncton wraps up their regular season on Friday night, when they host the Mount Allison Mounties.
