X-Women drop one-goal game to Carabins
The STFX X-Women dropped a close 3-2 decision to the Montreal Carabins in their second game at the Theresa Humes Cup in pre-season tournament action hosted at Concordia University.
Montreal, QC – The STFX X-Women dropped a close 3-2 decision to the Montreal Carabins in their second game at the Theresa Humes Cup in pre-season tournament action hosted at Concordia University.
STFX outshot the Carabins 44-32 in the match but came out on the wring end of a one-goal game on the scoreboard.
The first period was scoreless as the X-Women had 13 shots to the Carabins' 11.
STFX defense Vivian Hinch opened the scoring with an unassisted marker two minutes into the second period.
The Carabins replied with two unanswered goals in the period, first scoring shorthanded at 13:42 on a marker from Jade Picard, then Camille Dumont tallied a minute later.
Shots in the middle frame favored the X-Women, 13-10.
Amelie Poire-Lehoux gave the Carabins – always a strong contender out of the RSEQ conference – a 3-1 lead 1:10 into the third period on a power play goal.
The X-Women answered back with a goal two minutes later off the stick of Maggy Burbidge. Landyn Pitts and Lamdyn Switzer assisted.
STFX pressured for the equalizer and outshot the Carabins 18-11 in the third period but Mayde Desroches was strong in the Montreal net, posting 42 saves, and they held on for the win.
Brooklyn Oakes with 29 saves for the X-Women was tagged with the loss.
The blue and white will be back in action Sunday with their final game of the tournament as they face the Toronto Metropolitan Bold at 11:00 am EST.
