
Montreal, QC – The STFX X-Women defeated the Queen's Gaels 6-1 in exhibition action Friday night at the Theresa Humes Cup, hosted by Concordia University.
The X-Women got out to leads of 2-0 after the first period and 5-0 after two and never looked back.
Maggy Burbidge scored two goals for STFX as they secured their first win in the three-day, six-team pre-season tournament.
Burbidge scored on the power play two and a half minutes into the game off an assist from Kalle Hastman. Hastman then set up fellow rookie Terryn Mozes at the 7:44 mark of the period to extend the X lead.
Second period goals came from Landyn Pitts only 28 seconds in, Kya Moss on the power play and Burbidge with her second of the night. Kamdyn Switzer picked up a pair of assists for the X-Women who held a confident 5-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Switzer then found the back of the net herself just over 11 minutes into the third period as the X-Women scored six unanswered goals.
Rebecca Thompson broke the shutout and got the Gaels on the board with a power play marker at 14:30.
Shots favored the X-Women 34-28 and Amaya Giraudier picked up the win between the pipes for STFX, posting 27 saves.
The X-Women will be back in action Saturday when they face off against the Montreal Carabins at 12:00 pm EST.
