Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women blanked the St. Thomas Tommies 6-0 Sunday afternoon at the Charles V. Keating Centre.

With the win, the X-Women improve to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Tommies drop to 3-2-0.

STFX got out to a quick 1-0 lead in the game just over two minutes in when captain Emerson Elliott (Aurora, ON) sniped an unassisted marker, beating the Tommies goalie Caroline Pietroski (Etobicoke, ON) on the blocker side as the puck ricocheted off the cross bar and in.

The home squad made it a two-goal lead midway through the period as Anna MacCara (Trenton, NS) scored on a 2-on-0 up ice with Elliott. After getting the initial feed up ice from Josie Chisholm (Antigonish, NS), MacCara took the shot herself and beat Pietroski glove side.

The Tommies did not have a lot of chances in the first period as they were outshot by the X-Women 16-9.

The second period saw another pair of X-Women goals to take a 4-0 advantage. STFX continued their strong play, outshooting the visitors 11-3.

MacCara notched her second goal of the afternoon late in the period at the 15:53 mark on a high shot from an Elliott pass. Landyn Pitts (Antigonish, NS) also assisted.

STFX defense Lauren Dabrowski (Tiny, ON) tallied with only 12 seconds left in the second period while the X-Women were on a power play as her shot from the point beat a screened Pietroski. Tyra Meropousli (Edson, AB) picked up a helper on the play.

The third period was more balanced in scoring chances with the Tommies holding a 13-10 shot advantage, though it was the X-Women who scored another two unanswered goals.

Maggy Burbidge (Falmouth, NS) scored at 5:24 off a nice feed from Meropoulis, then Meropoulis scored the final goal of the game at 11:06 to round out a three-point effort.

Finals shots in the game were 37-25 for STFX as Amaya Giraudier (Assiniboia, SK) picked up the shutout win in the STFX net. Pietroski had 31 saves in the losing effort for the Tommies.

STFX forward Emerson Elliott received the game's third star honour, while Dabrowski was second star. With her two-goal performance, MacCara picked up first star and Subway Player of the Game honours.

The Tommies return to Fredericton to host cross-town rivals UNB on Friday evening, October 290th, while the X-Women will next see action when they travel to Mount Allison, also on Friday night.
