Four power play goals lift X-Women to victory over Aigles Bleues

Moncton, NB - The STFX X-Women scored four times on the power play to savor a 6-3 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in AUS action Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The score was 1-1 following the first period and each team added a goal in the second while they evaluated their opponents. Moncton led 12-8 on shots in the middle period, but the third period went to the visitors who took advantage of a major five-minute penalty to score two goals and secure the victory.

Lauren Dabrowski led the STFX attack with two goals on the power play. Hannah MacDonald, Chloe Vukosa, Tyra Meropoulis and Maggy Burbidge managed the other goals against Moncton goalkeeper Audrey Berthiaume who had 28 saves.

Jamie Johnson scored the win in the STFX net with 20 saves. X-Women forward Lea MacLeod, the Subway player of the game, had three assists.

Marika Gagnon in the first period, Janie Poitras during the second, and Erica Plourde in the third had the Aigles Bleues markers.

Total shots in the game favoured the X-Women at 34-23.

The X-Women took advantage of 4 of the 6 power plays and Moncton was 0 for 5.

The X-Women will be back in action Sunday as they host St. Thomas in a 2pm game.

The Aigles Bleues play two more home games next weekend, hosting Saint Mary's on Friday and Dalhousie on Saturday.
