Sackville, NB – The STFX X-Women skated to a decisive 8-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Friday night, spoiling their AUS regular season debut.
The X-Women, picked in the AUS coaches' poll to finish first in the conference in 2020-21, got to work early as forward Abby Lewis scored 6:45 into the game to give the blue and white a 1-0 lead.
Goals by Emerson Elliott and Maggy Burbidge on the power play resulted in a 3-0 lead for the X-Women by the end of the first period.
The scoring continued for the visitors in the second period as Anna MacCara, Lacey Dimaulo and Burbidge scored within the opening four minutes to stretch the lead to 6-0.
Emma Thomas and Lewis with her second goal of the night rounded on the scoring for an X-Women squad that put 55 total shots on the Mounties net.
Goaltender Amaya Giraudier made 15 saves in the shutout win in the StFX net.
Burbidge received Subway Player of the Game honours with her three-point performance (2G, 1A). Lea MacLeod assisted on three of the X goals.
The Mounties are back in action to take on UPEI on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. StFX will host UPEI on Friday, October 15th.
