Halifax, NS – The X-Women hockey team rebounded from a 3-2 last night to defeat the same Saint Mary's squad 5-2 tonight at SMU Arena as the teams played home-and-home pre-season exhibition games.

Lauren Dabrowski and Maggy Burbidge each scored two goals for the X-Women in the win. Burbidge also tallied two the previous evening.

Special teams played a big factor in the game as STFX scored one goal on the extra advantage and also netted a short handed marker. Both Huskies goals came on the power play.

X-Women defense Lauren Dabrowski opened the scoring in the game at 7:15 of the first period. The lone held through the opening period as the X-Women were outshot by the Huskies 10-6.

Burbidge then potted two goals four minutes apart in the second period at 4:33 and 8;09, respectively. Her first came on the power play from Emerson Elliott and Josie Chisholm while her second was unassisted.

SMU got on the board at the 15:13 mark with a power play goal from Maddy Corbett. Kara MacLean and Laura Horwood had the helpers.

The X-Women held onto the 3-1 lead through 40 minutes as shots were even at eight apiece in the second period.

STFX went up 5-1 off third period goals from Dabrowski and Ellie Brown. Dabrowski's came shorthanded at 8:28 while Kristen Marshall assisted on the Brown goal at 13:47 – her first in a STFX uniform.

Huskies forward Miranda Hatt rounded out the scoring with a power play marker at 16:59 from Ellen Laurence.

Finals shots in the game favoured the Huskies at 28-20.

Freshman netminder Amaya Giraudier earned the win in the X net with 26 saves on the night, while Ashley Forier (15 saves) was tagged with the loss at the Huskies end.

The game was a physical one as both teams combined for 24 penalty minutes.

X-Women head coach Ben Berthiaume noted that his squad "gave a more consistent effort in tonight's game."

"Everyone is starting to get their feet under them and our systems are coming along."

STFX will next hit the ice on Friday, October 1st when they travel back to Halifax to face-off against the Dalhousie Tigers. The same Tigers team will visit the STFX Keating Centre on Saturday, October 2nd in a 7:00 pm puck drop.
