X-Women hockey alumnus Rebecca Davies Named General Manager of the Toronto Furies

This past season Rebecca Davies competed for the Toronto Furies as a 5'4" forward. She contributed one goal, three assists and a plus four rating in 21 games. She also competed in three 2012 Clarkson Cup games for the Furies with no points and an even rating.

She also was a member of the Mississauga Chiefs for the 2009-10 season when she led the team with 16 goals in 29 games played. She then moved to the Toronto Furies franchise for the 2010-11 season contributing five goals, three assists, a plus three rating and one game winning goal in 22 games.

She was also a valued contributor in Toronto's 2011 Clarkson Cup tournament when they lost in the final to the Montreal Stars. During that tournament she pitched in with three assists and a plus three rating in four games.

Rebecca's home town is Toronto, Ontario, Canada and she attended St. Franics Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She also attended George Brown College.

While she played in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) with the X-Women she had a successful career. For the 2004-05 season she was named to the CIS All-Rookie Team and at the end of the 2006-07 season she was named to the CIS Second All-Star Team.

She has professional sports business experience with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. There she has served as Coordinator of Sports Partnerships. She has also been a contributor to volunteer events including MLSE's Teaming Up initiative (click here for more details).

Davies inherits a team one year removed from the 2011 Clarkson Cup Final loss and the loss of all time women's hockey great Jennifer Botterill. Last season the Furies had nine wins, 13 losses and five ties to finish the season with 26 points and a fourth place berth in the 2012 Clarkson Cup Tournament. One large area of improvement that will be required is their home record. The Furies won three, lost seven and tied two games in Toronto this past season.

In the 2012 Clarkson Cup Toronto lost all three of their games. The Furies however do have a bright future ahead of them with players including Tessa Bonhomme, Sami Jo Small, Mallory Deluce, Kori Cheverie and Jesse Scanzano leading the way.

Rebecca Davies will have to work quickly to be ready for the 2012 CWHL Draft coming up on July 21, 2012. Although she will have an advantage having played with the current Furies team and having a good handle on their strengths, weaknesses and areas that could be improved upon. I am sure the Toronto Furies are in great hands with their new General Manager.

Congratulations to Rebecca Davies on her appointment as General Manager of the CWHL's Toronto Furies franchise!
