Simon Farine of the CIS No. 8-ranked Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6th, 2011. Simon, a fifth-year student-athlete from Toronto, Ont., was named the most valuable player of the 2011 Subway AUS Men’s Basketball Championship this past weekend as he led the Tigers to their second AUS championship banner in the past three years. In Saturday’s semifinal match-up with the StFX X-Men, Farine had 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Tigers won 79-68. In Sunday afternoon’s championship game, Simon scored a game-high 24 points and added five rebounds, six assists and eight steals in Dalhousie’s 78-47 victory over the Acadia Axemen, and was chosen the player of the game. Farine, who will graduate this spring with a management degree, was also named the most valuable player of the 2009 AUS championship.

Erin Brophy of the CIS No. 3-ranked StFX X-Women hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6th, 2011. Brophy, a second-year Bachelor of Arts student from Antigonish, N.S., was named the most valuable player of the 2011 Subway AUS Women’s Hockey Championship hosted by StFX University this past weekend. In the three tournament games, Erin registered a total of 10 points (five goals and five assists) to help the X-Women capture their eighth AUS banner in team history and first since the 2007-08 season. In StFX’s opening game, Brophy scored two goals and added an assist in the X-Women’s 6-1 win over Mount Allison and was named player of the game. In Saturday’s 9-2 victory over Dalhousie, she netted two goals and two assists, and in the championship game, she scored a goal and added two more assists as StFX defeated Moncton by a score of 9-2.
