X-Women Win Game 1 of the Subway AUS Women's Hockey Championship

CIS No. 3 ranked X-Women Hockey team defeated Mount Allison Mounties 6-1 this afternoon in Game 1 of the Subway AUS Women’s Hockey Championship hosted at StFX. The X-Women entered the Championship in first place with a perfect 24-0 record in regular season play.


StFX’s Alex Normore (10:21) was the first to get on the board with the lone goal of the first period. Janelle Parent and Carolyn Campbell had the assist.


Second period X-Women’s Erin Brophy (6:25) fired one past net minder Meghan Corley-Bryne to take the lead 2-0.


X-Women’s Catie Gavin (00:56) came out flying in the third with a goal in less than a minute into play. Brophy and Campbell with the assist. Seconds later Erin Brophy (1:22) scored her second goal of the night to take the lead 4-0. Gavin with the assist. Janelle Parent (9:27), assisted by Normore and Molly MacDonald,  got one past the goal line for StFX. With less than 2 minutes left of play X-Women’s Brittney Perkins (18:13) scored a short handed goal, assisted by Jenna Pitts. Seconds later Mount Allison’s Jenica Bastarche (18:33) fired a shot past X-Women’s Kristy Garrow on the power play. Kelsey Farrell with the assist. Final score of the game was 6-1 for the X-Women.


Final shots on net were 34-14 in StFX’s favor. Garrow was awarded the win while Corley-Bryne was tagged with the loss. Mount Allison's Kristen Cooze and X-Women's Erin Brophy were named the Players of the Game.


Mount Allison Mounties next see action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm against Dalhousie Tigers.


X-Women next see action Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm against Dalhousie Tigers.
