Harvieux leads X-Women with 2 shutouts

StFX Female Athlete of the Week Katie Harvieux combined for 44 saves in two weekend shutouts to lead the X-Women in 5-0 and 6-0 wins over AUS rivals Saint Mary’s and Dalhousie this past weekend.

Friday night in Halifax, Harvieux turned aside 20 Saint Mary’s shots in a 5-0 win over Saint Mary’s. Four of the five X-Women goals were scored on the power play including two from Player of the Game Brayden Ferguson in the first period.

\r\n

Christina Davis and Erin Brophy also scored power play markers and Jessica Shanahan added an even strength goal to round out the scoring for X. Ferguson, Shanahan and Suzanne Fenerty all contributed with 2 assists a piece.

On Saturday evening in Antigonish, the X-Women jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead en route to a decisive 6-0 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers. They added two goals in the second period and one in the third.

Katie Harvieux again earned the win in nets with 24 saves. Erin Brophy fired two power play goals for X and singles were scored by Jessica Shanahan, Carolyn Campbell, Lindsay Brown and Catie Gavin. Laura Grant assisted on 3 goals while Campbell and Brown each had 2 assists.

With the wins the X-Women improve to 17-3-1 and sit in second place, 5 points back of Moncton. They will play host to St. Thomas (12-4-5) on Saturday afternoon and UPEI (5-15-0) on Sunday. Game times both days are 2:00 pm at the StFX Keating Centre.
