X-Women come from behind to beat Tigers

The nationally ranked 6th place X-Women came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers 4-3 in Halifax Friday night. Lindsay Brown scored the game winner for X late in the third period.

After a single Tigers goal from Jocelyn LeBlanc in the first period, the Tigers went on to establish a 3-1 lead late into the second period. Catie Gavin had evened the game at the 12:23 mark in the second frame with a goal for the X-Women off a Marilynn Hay pass, but Dalhousie scored two consecutive power play goals to gain the lead.

LeBlanc scored her second of the game at 16:29 of the second, followed by another power play marker by Robyn Nicholson just 18 seconds later.

Carolyn Campbell scored a late second period goal for the X-Women to decrease the Tigers lead to one, after two periods of play. Catie Gavin and Erin Brophy assisted on the play.

The X-Women held the momentum heading into the third period and Anna Barrett fired the tying goal 2:11 in, assisted by Laura Grant. Forward Lindsay Brown notched the game winner with just over two minutes left in the game. Assists went to Grant and Jessica Shanahan.

X-Women netminder Melissa Murphy had 22 saves for the win, while Emelie Ederfors took the loss for the Tigers. The X-Women outshot the Tigers by a 32-25 margin.

The X-Women remain in second place in the AUS conference with a 14-3-1 record and will have a re-match against the Tigers on Friday night, Feb. 6 on home ice. Game time is 7:00 pm at the StFX Keating Centre.
