Hockey X-Women get two big wins

The X-Women hockey team had a successful weekend after two lopsided wins over UPEI and Mount Allison. StFX topped the Panthers 10-2 on Saturday and then came back over the bridge to handily beat the Mounties 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.

At UPEI, the X-Women scored six goals in the second period with Brayden Ferguson getting the hat-trick. Ferguson added three assists for six point night and is second in league scoring with 23 points. Laura Grant also had a great night with four assists to go along with her goal. Grant is leading the AUS in points for a defenseman with 13.

Christina Davis had two goals and two assists, while Carolyn Campbell and Jessica Shanahan each had three points. Katie Harvieux stopped 21 shots for the win in goal.

On Sunday, it was more of the same as it was Davis’ turn to get the hat-trick. Davis had a natural hat-trick as all of her goals came in succession in the third period. StFX would score four in the period for the win.

Marilynn Hay and Kelly Boudreau each had a goal and an assist. Ferguson and Shanahan added two helpers a piece and Melissa Murphy only had to make nine saves for the shutout.

StFX (10-3-1) is now in second place in the conference, trailing league-leading Moncton (14-0-1) by eight points. The X-Women have a busy week at home coming up. The fifth place Mounties (3-9-1) will be in town on Friday night at 7:00 pm for a rematch, the aforementioned Aigles Bleues will take on StFX on Sunday at 3:00 pm and then the sixth place Saint Mary’s Huskies (2-9-2) come to Antigonish for a 7pm Wednesday night game.
