Balanced attack leads X-Women past Axewomen

WOLFVILLE, NS The StFX X-Women snapped Acadia's three-game win streak on Saturday night as they walked away with a 76-65 victory in front of over 600 fans at Stu Aberdeen Court.

The win was the third in a row for the X-Women and their first victory at Acadia since Jan. 10, 2015.

Kristine Cooper (Hamilton, ON) led StFX starters with 13 points, while it was Laia Torrent Blanco (Cornella de Llobregat, Spain) coming off the bench to put up 16 points.

Starters Lauren Neeve (Oro-Medonte, ON), Ekaterina Karchevskaya (Mogilev, BY), and Katie Upham (North River, NS) all added 11 points apiece for the X-Women.

For Acadia, Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) had a first half double-double of 11 points and 10 boards, but was held to just 16 points and 13 rebounds to end the night. Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) had 10 boards, with six points.

Also finishing in double-digit scoring were Bianca Helmig (Speyer, Germany) and Julia Sylvester (Dudas, ON). They finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.

With all games concluded in the AUS as of Saturday night, Acadia sits in third place, while StFX has moved up to fourth with the win.

Next weekend StFX hosts the UPEI Panthers (5-7) on Saturday and Sunday, while Acadia hosts Dalhousie (0-12) on Friday night before traveling to Halifax to face the Tigers on Saturday.
